Green Hideaway: A Quiet Corner for Two

When guests ask me about the quietest spot in Bibury, I always point them towards Green Hideaway. It sits directly on The Green, which means it looks out over open space and those lovely honey-stone cottages, rather than the busier lanes where visitors tend to gather. For couples wanting to properly switch off and enjoy some peace, many of them escaping London for a few days, it is just the place.

Inside, the living room is centred around an open fire and window seats piled with cushions. It is a wonderfully cosy spot, particularly as the evenings draw in. The simple, well-equipped kitchen and dining table mean you have everything you need for quiet meals in, with birdsong often drifting in through the windows from The Green.

Upstairs, there are two king-size bedrooms, but for a couple, the front bedroom is particularly charming. It looks out over The Green, offering a lovely view to wake up to, and it has that wonderful stillness about it. I often hear from guests that they sleep deeper here than they have in months.

The location truly is what makes it. You can step out the front door and you are on The Green, away from the flow of visitors. Yet, Arlington Row is only a five-minute walk if you fancy a stroll, and The Swan is nearby for a riverside dinner. By day, Twig and Eleven are both good for a coffee or a light lunch. It is the best of both worlds, really – quiet seclusion with everything you might want close at hand.
